Abstract
Based on measured data, analog calculation of pollution load in the Weihe River Valley was done using the calibrated and validated SWAT model, and then based on the simulation, effects of the measures for control of point source (PSP) and non-point source pollution (NSP) in the valley were evaluated. Results show that comprehensive NSP control measures are better than single-factor NSP control measures in control effect. PSP control measures are quite good at reducing nitrogen and phosphorus pollution, and the effect increases with rising intensity of the measures. Comprehensive pollution control programs for control of PSP and NSP simultaneously are much better than any single-factor control measures in mitigating nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in the valley. Once the comprehensive pollution control programs are launched, it can be expected that the pollution load in the valley will have been reduced by 2020 to a certain extent, that will meet the pollution control targets specified in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" for major pollutants, which indicates that the comprehensive pollution control measures are very effective and the water environment quality in the valley will be remarkably improved.
