Abstract: In order to investigate potential health risk of residue of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in the water of Lake Baihuahu to human beings, water samples were collected from 8 sampling sites located in Lake Baihuahu.Concentrations of OCPs in the water were determined with gas chromatography. Results show that the total concentration of the 11 kinds of organochlorine pesticides found in the water samples varied in the range of 15.5-43.8 ng•L-1, of which 3.2-14.6 and 1.2-7.8 ng•L-1 was BHCs and DDTs, respectively.Based on the model of water environmental health risk assessment recommended by USEPA, the health risk assessment indicates that the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks of OCPs residue in the water of the Lake are both lower than the highest acceptable level of risk set by ICRP.
