Abstract: Three representative deserted limestone quarries at Mentougou District,Beijing were selected as examples in the study to explore relationship of vegetation with natural succession of the soil, through field survey, sample collection and laboratory analysis. Results show that organic matter content versus pH values of the soil samples are well related with restoration index(Irq).Meanwhile, close correlation is also found between the normalized synthetic bands(b3/b4) and comprehensive restoration index(Irq).A new empirical model is worked out from b3/b4 and Irq,and applied to quick calculation of comprehensive restoration index(Irq) of other quarries.
