Abstract: Based on the 2009 date of domestic animal rearing, total domestic animal excrement produced in Foshan and contents of the major nutrients therein were estimated, using the estimation method for annual animal excrement and the determined excretion coefficient. The impact of the excrement on the environment hans been evaluated. Results show that in 2009,Foshan produced a total of 3323512.13 t of animal manure, which was dominated with pig manure and chicken droppings, accounting for 60.85% and 14.10%,respectively and contained 97004.17 t of COD,92782.79 t of BOD,7929.77 t of NH3-N,7850.56 t of TP and 18382.88 t of TN.Thus each hectare of farmland had to share a load of 74.07 t animal manure(pig manure equivalent),containing 436.83 kg·hm-2 N and 186.55 kg·hm-2 P.Obviously, Foshan is faced with a serious environmental problem that the production of animal manure is posing.
