Abstract: The research indicates that the purification of silking wastewater can be strenthened well bythe semi-artificial aquatic ecosystem covered with water hyacinth (Eichhornic crassipes). The purification rates are 95.7%, 92.6%, 96.6%, 86.6%, 79.8%, 90.5% and 88.7% for TSS, BOD5, CODcr, TN, NH4+-N, TP and PO43---P respectively. After this process, the wastewater can be discharged harmlessly. The water hyacinth harvested from the pond can be provided for breeding fish and the economic benefits is signficant. So the environmental, economic and social benefits are well integrated. At last, some key problems of practising and managing the ecosystem are discussed.
