A pot culture experiment of rice in greenhouse was carried out to investigate the diurnal variations of CH4 fluxes, soil temperatures and soil Eh during rice growing period with different treatments applied in the former winter cropping season. The results showed that there existed obvious diurnal variations of CH 4 fluxes and soil temperatures in continuous fine days. The maximum fluxes occurred at 4 pm while the minimum fluxes at about 4 am,and the variation patterns of CH4 fluxes and soil temperatures were in conformity with cosine function of time t as a variable.Methane fluxes in continuous overcast and rainy days had a decreasing tendency day by day,and its diurnal variations could not be fitted with a cosine functional curve of time t .Diurnal variations of CH4 fluxes were mainly influenced by soil temperature at 0 10 cm soil depth. And there is no influence of soil Eh on diurnal variations of CH4 fluxes.

The Chengyuan River Basin in Jixi county of Anhui province was taken as a site for case study of desertification combating. The results showed the existence of water induced desertification in granite area of sub humid zone of Southern China. The causes and harmfulnesses of desertification have been discussed. After more than 10 years of efforts on desertification control in the case study area, obvious improvement had been made and important experiences had been gained. In 1984, the total area of water induced desertification in Chengyuan River Basin was 7.56 km2 which accounts for 18.03% of the total area of the basin, while in 1996, the acreage and the percentage of water induced desertificaton in the basin were decreased to 2.56 km2 and 6.11%, respectively. Significant economic, social and environmental benefits have been obtained. Results of the study indicated that the desertification process may be reversed if a series of prevention and control measures could be taken.

Wenzhou city lies in the east of Zhejiang province, and it has a large amount of unused mountain resources. Due to locating in the subtropical zone, it is rich in sunshine, heat resources and soil types. The favourable location also helps the city to exploit and utilize the unused mountain resources. The superiority and inferiority of exploitation and utilization were firstly inquired, then the suitability of the unused mountain resources was appraised to decide the utilization pattern. The conclusions suggested that developing forest and orchard should be the focal point. While exploring, the sustainable development principle being kept in line with local conditions should be obeyed. The important resources should be explored first, and then promoted in all areas by drawing upon the experiences gained at the key points. In the end, the ways for developing were drawn out to be below: coordinating the man land relationship, resolving the energy problem of rural life and putting more capitals into the resources exploitation and utilization.

Based on current land management systems and vegetation at Bakaxiaozhai village of Xishuangbanna of China, the agrolandscape of the village could be divided into five types and eleven subtypes, of which fallow fields, rubber plantations and water head forests are most important ones. The ecological problems of each agricultural landscape have been analyzed and the corresponding strategies have been put forward.

Based on the results of the experimental research on flocculation and biochemical treatment of paper making midcourse wastewater, the technical roads to the treatment of paper making midcourse wastewater were discussed. It has been concluded that the combination of flocculation and aerobic biooxidation treatment is an appropriate way for treatment of this kind of wastewater. On the basis of the pollution characteristics of two kinds of wastewater from beating and washing processes of broke recovering, five design principles have been proposed.

Based on the results of the study on the multivariable optimal control of the high concentration organic wastewater biological treatment system with Inter kingdom Fusant, the construction cost minimization model and the restriction formulas were established and the optimization of process design was discussed. The results of a case study of bean processing wastewater treatment with fusant showed that the mathematical model has a sole solution on condition that three parameters were regarded as control variables. The three parameters are: concentration of influent in aeration tank ( S 0),MLSS concentration in aeration tank ( X ) and recycle ratio ( R ). This model can be used as reference to the process design of high concentration organic wastewater treatment.

With the rapid growth of township and village enterprises(TVEs), it now contributes for 30% to the total amount of the national economy and 60% to the rural economy. On the other hand, with the deepening of the reform in the national economic system, the development of TVEs will face with the great challenges. It is difficult for TVEs to realize sustainable development unless they can avoid the disadvantages of themselves to the development and solve the problems of severe environmental pollution and ecology impacts caused by them. Those issues are primarily discussed and some suggestions were proposed for promoting attention of the society and thus to stipulate the sustainable development of TVEs.

Contents and distributions of Cu and Zn in soil compositae system in Xishan Hill of Kunming were studied. Based on parameters of statistical analysis and absorption coefficients, levels of Cu and Zn contents were described quantitatively, and abilities of absorption and enrichment were also presented.Relative absorption coefficients of Cu in compositae except Suassurea japonica were tested to be lower than 1, which showed cushioning effects of Cu in the soil. Enrichment abilities of Zn were showed in Vernonia esculenta, Thylophora yunnanensis, Suassurea japonica and Crepis rigescens, but cushioning effects of Zn were found in other plants.
