Abstract:
Habitat is the basic unit of an ecological system,so habitat evaluation methods will play an important role in eco-environmental impact assessment. The habitat evaluation procedures(HEP),which has been extensively used in the United States,is now modified and simplified in procedures and methodology for this study.Based on analysis of the density of indicator species in existing habitat units, and anticipated alienation of the habitat by the planned project, impact of the planned project on indicator species is predicted. With the planning of Dadong Port District as a case for study, the modified HEP was used to quantitatively analyze impact of the project on indicator species(wader and waterfowl) foraging habitat.Based on the impact analysis,a habitat making-up program and ecological buffering measures were laid down.
