Abstract:
Observation was carried out in a 7-year old citrus orchard in Fuzhou to study characteristics of litterfall process and decomposition of litters. It was found that the orchard had 1 682.48 kg·hm
-2 of litters a year,of which 58.97% were fallen leaves.Litterfall occurred irregularly from month to month, reaching peaks in March and July. The amounts of carbon and nitrogen returned with litters in a year in the citrus orchard was 704.56 and 43.72 kg·hm
-2,respectively.Decomposition of the litters proceeded fast at the beginning and slowed down later. After 1 year of decomposition the residual rate was 21.50%,and it took 1.83 years to have 95% of litters decomposed.
