Abstract: Aluminum smelting is one of the major industrial sectors of Yongkang City. The aluminum smelteries are mostly located in Gushan Township and Qiaoxia Township. The results of the investigation show that the equivalent pollution load rate of fluoride, SO₂ , and dust in waste gas emitted from the smelteries were 62.93%, 25.24% and 11.83% respectively. The solid waste generating rate was 0.5 t/t of aluminum ingot. It is obvious that the environment has been polluted and the human health has been harmed by the smelteries. On the basis of investigation and analyses the control countermeasures have been proposed.
