Abstract:
To investigate the emissions of gaseous reactive nitrogen from anthropogenic sources in Jiangsu Province, an emission inventory of NH
3 and NO
x during 2016-2022 was developed using the emission factor method based on activity data from various emission sectors. The interannual variation trends and source characteristics of NH
3 and NO
x emissions were analyzed, and their spatial distribution in terms of total emissions and emission intensity was examined using ArcGIS. Results show that NH
3 emissions first declined from 355.95 Gg in 2016 to 288.07 Gg in 2019, then increased to 303.79 Gg in 2022. Agricultural activities like livestock breeding and nitrogen fertilizer application were the key drivers of NH
3 emissions, while NO
x emissions exhibited a general downward trend, primarily influenced by energy, industrial and transportation sectors, with the highest and lowest values recorded in 2016 (1 130.40 Gg) and 2021 (858.45 Gg), respectively. The emission intensities of NH
3 and NO
x exhibited significant regional differences, with higher NH
3 emission intensities predominantly concentrated in northern Jiangsu Province characterized by intensive agricultural activities, while NO
x emissions primarily clustered in the industrialized southern Jiangsu region.
