Abstract: With the application of revised Gauss smoke point-source model and simplified H-G plane-source model, this paper simulates the 1981 ’s concentration distribution of air SO₂ in Jiangsu province and forecasts its distribution tendency in 2000. In 1981, the SO₂-polluted area in Jiangsu ( beyond the limit of the National 2nd Class Standard of Atmosphere Quality ) is 825 km², damaged polulation is about 4,170,000, and the main polluted area is the two sides along the Shanghai-Nanjing railway in Southern Jiangsu. In 2000, the damaged area in this province will be 2,575 km², damaged population 8,000,000, and polluted area will be expanded to the two banks of Yangtze Eiver. Comparing with 1981. in 2000, the SO₂ concentration in urban districts will be increased not significantly, but more significantly in suburbs and some rural districts. This paper also analyses the reason of air SOa pollution in Jiangsu and the rate of this influence on agro-ecology, and estimates the direct economic loss induced by it.
