Abstract: This paper presents a detailed estimation of methane emitted from ruminant animals China. and available. mitigation technologies are discussed. The tesults of estimation show that about 6.9 to 7.5 percent of gross energy taken by ru-minant animals is lost through methane emitted, The total methane emitted from ruminant i China is 5.80 Tg in 1990 or about 7.2 percent of the global methane emitted from ruminat。Straw treatment, multinutrient block and bypass protein technologie, and advanced management are proposed to reduce methane emitted and to increase productivity,There are some un-certainties in estimations due to lack of experimental data, great efforts are needed to improve the estimations and to develop effec-tive technologies for reducing methane emitted.

Key words: China, methane emitted, ruminant animals, mitigation technology
