Abstract: To explore effect of polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) gel embedded with nitrifying/denitrifying bacteria in remedying ecology of eutroficated waterbody, a 21-day N-removal  experiment was conducted using the gel coupled with two species of plants (Oenanthe clecumbensand Ipomoea aquatica). Results show that the concentration of TN, NH4+-N, NO3--N, NO2--N and TP in the group added with bacteria was significantly lower than that in the group without bacteria, respectively(P<0.05). Correlation analysis shows that nitrogen removal efficiency in the experimental groups was significantly and positively related to the addition of nitrifying bacteria and denitrifying bacteria embedded in PVA Gel(P<0.05). The mean growth rate of Oenanthe clecumbensand Ipomoea aquatica was 38.5 and 19.6 mg·g-1·d-1, respectively, in the experimental group added with the gel(RGR)and 29.9 and 9.5 mg·g-1·d-1, respectively. in the group without the gel.
