Abstract:

A field survey of willingness of farm households to get compensation of heavy metal pollution of farmlands was conducted using the contingent valuation method (CVM) in August 2015 in the Dahuanjiang River Valley in Huanjiang County, Guangxi. Results show that willingness of a farmer house hold to participate in the local soil remediation project is positively related to designed compensation standard, area of the farmland cultivated by the farmer household, and pollution degree of the farmland. On average, farmer households would accept compensation no less than 12630.75 CNY·hm-2·a-1, which can serve as a theoretical basis for designing of standards for ecological compensation for remediation of heavy metal polluted farm lands in the valley. It is held that the remediation of heavy metal polluted farmlands and matching eco-compensation projects should begin with regions quite large in area of markedly polluted farmland. It is, therefore, suggested that in future studies on eco-compensation, attention should be paid to the relationship between compensation standards and objective condition and formulation of a universal set of methods for studies on eco-compensation standards.
